‘Timeline’ is set in a park in a new multistoried building quarter of Brussels. The camera observes the park from a fixed point of view. It pans slowly from left to right, sometimes also jerkily. Suddenly we notice changes. Time leaps let different seasons follow each other. A narrow red shining ribbon, which is put up between metal posts, flutters steadfastly in the wind like a common theme, that streches out through the whole scenery.

"The work narrates decisions that my great-grandmother made during her life. These decisions influenced the future and the destiny of my whole family, up to the current work and social status of me as an artist nowadays.
The images are taken from my personal archive and the internet."

PAPER BUTTERFLY (I Triumph in Sadness)

"-I do not want optimism and blind hope. I want to triumph in sadness. Paper Butterfly is one of my most personal works. The text and installation are an embrace of melancholia and serene pessimism, of tenderness and perseverance. Our circadian rhythms, our creative impulses, are still disrupted by accidents of mood and biology. No matter how much science influences approaches to creativity and pathological forms of disordered mood, the scientist and the neuro-aesthete can only gauge the cortex response to fear or beauty, not the impetus or the paralysis of the artist or viewer who experiences non-pathological emotion or mood. Science can never denude the soul's need for an artistic confrontation or a lullaby.  Technology and his distractions numb and satiate, disrupting the stillness and dancing required for plumbing controlled chaos and wreckage. Sadness and her sister emotions increase productivity, kindness, creativity. Neuroscience now confirms what Scandinavians, philosophers, and artists have always known (practically and intuitively): the truisms of positivity and easy comfort prevent us from growth, confrontation, poetry, and self-possession. Blind hope makes us strangers to all that is ethereal, magical, earthly, and profane. (sound, text, composition, voice, performance, video by Melancholy Maaret) "
